Arkansas General Assembly
An interactive look at bills from current and past legislative sessions.
Understanding Legislative Sessions
The Arkansas General Assembly meets in sessions to introduce, debate, and vote on bills. There are two main types of sessions, plus special sessions for urgent matters.
- Regular Sessions: These are the main legislative events, held in odd-numbered years (like 2025, 2023). They begin on the second Monday of January and cover a wide range of topics, from new laws to the state budget.
- Fiscal Sessions: Held in even-numbered years (like 2024, 2022), these are shorter sessions focused primarily on the state's budget and appropriation bills.
- Special Sessions: The Governor can call a special session at any time to address specific, urgent issues that cannot wait for the next scheduled session.
